His work has primarily been in the area of science & technology education for young people involved in 4-H programs in Alabama but also across the country. Cook has provided leadership to such programs as a partnership with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Huntsville, Alabama and their Space Camp program by providing a special three-day program for youth in 4-H from around the country. He has provided leadership to statewide and national initiatives in science & technology literacy through numerous workshops and conferences, serving on national 4-H leadership teams on science & technology during the 1990s to the present, national promotion and leadership in the aerospace education community, leadership to a national level Community of Practitioners on the development of a national land grant university knowledge base designed and written for the youth audience through eXtension, and directing the development of a national level digital badging system for 4-H. His work at Auburn University with support from the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System has led to the development of the project discussed in this proposal to provide a safe and credible online learning resource for the school aged population of the U.S. inclusive of 4-H.

Dr. Cook also worked with a team on the development of a digital badge system for 4-H that was introduced to the 4-H community in the Fall of 2013. Digital badges are web-enabled graphic images that contain detailed evidence of learning by the earner.
