What is a ranch?

A ranch is a place where livestock are raised. The most common type is a cattle ranch, where beef cattle are raised. We often think of a cowboy riding a horse rounding up cattle during a cattle drive when we hear the word ranch.

Ranch activities include the following:

  • taking care of the animals
  • checking and repairing fences
  • moving animals from one pasture to another
  • buying and selling animals

Dude ranches are ranches that allow people to visit and see what it is like to work and live on a ranch. Visitors help out with the daily chores and activities on the ranch.
