What are beef cattle?

Beef cattle are livestock that are raised for their meat.  The meat taken from the cow is called beef.  Therefore, cattle that are raised for their meat are called beef cattle.  There are many different types of beef cattle.  Each one has been bred for certain qualities such as size and health. 

Some different types of beef cattle are: 

  • Angus
  • Brahman
  • Brangus
  • Limousin
  • Long Horn
  • Hereford
